Canada TFWP 2023: Moving to Online LMIA Applications

Effective April 1st, 2023, Canadian employers will need to submit their LMIA applications online using the LMIA Online Portal.

You need to have a Job Bank account first. Then you can apply via the online portal. Click here to create a Job Bank account.

LMIA Online Portal is designed for Canadian employers and third-party representatives to submit an LMIA application to Service Canada for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

The portal offers an improved, convenient way to apply, submit payment and track the application. According to Service Canada, online applications are usually processed 10 days faster than paper applications.

Service Canada claimed that the LMIA Online Portal will make it easier for employers to submit their LMIA applications. This is to be confirmed.

Type of LMIA applications you can submit online:

  • Global Talent Stream
  • Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program
  • Agricultural stream
  • Express Entry (Permanent Residency)
  • Academics, specialist doctors, registered nurses
  • Facilitated LMIA process for Quebec employers
  • High and Low Wage streams
  • In-home caregivers

Note: If you’re a foreign employer not incorporated in Canada, you must submit paper LMIA applications to Service Canada.

Apply for a LMIA

Applying for a LMIA application can be difficult, as employers are expected to be accurate and compliant in their efforts to recruit Canadians for the position that they are hiring, in their LMIA documentation and an interview with Service Canada.

With any type of error, the application can be refused. The employer may lose up to $1,000 in government fees, in addition to 2-3 months on the LMIA application.
