The Pearson Test of English (PTE) has been approved for use in Canadian immigration applications by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Starting in late 2023, the Pearson Test of English (PTE) will be added to the list of acceptable language proficiency tests for economic class candidates seeking immigration to Canada. The PTE will join CELPIP and IELTS General Training as one of three approved tests recognized by IRCC to demonstrate English language proficiency.
Standardized exams, like the Test d'évaluation de français (TEF) for French and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for English, are used to evaluate language competency. These examinations measure a candidate's proficiency in the target language in terms of speaking, reading, and writing.
Depending on the immigration program and the candidate's level of education, different languages are required at different levels for immigration to Canada.
It is important to note that the language proficiency requirements are just one of many factors considered during the immigration process. Other factors such as education, work experience, age, and adaptability are also considered.
For anyone looking to immigrate to Canada, the PTE will be accepted as proof of English language proficiency. The IRCC made this choice after carefully examining the PTE, a worldwide recognized and accepted English language examination.
