This visa type for immediate family members of U.S. citizens. The government does not limit these visas, so the processing times can be fast. An immediate relative includes:

Family Preference (F#) Immigrant Visas

This visa is for certain family members of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. There are limits per year on the family preference green cards issued, which can result in longer wait times to receive a visa.  The following family relationships qualify under this visa: 

• F1 includes a U.S. citizen’s unmarried children 21 years of age and older;

• F2A includes a lawful permanent resident’s spouse, and unmarried children under 21 years of age 

• F2B ) includes a lawful permanent resident’s unmarried children 21 years of age and older;

• F3 includes a U.S. citizen’s married children; and

• F4 includes a U.S. citizen’s brothers and sisters, if the U.S. citizen is 21 years of age and older
